from a debate between popular mechanics and loose change [Aug. 19th, 2007|01:28 pm]
"I find it interesting that every time you disagree with something, you call the person who said it a liar."

"I'm not calling anybody a liar. I'm calling you a liar because you are a liar."

I think when you start to get emotionally invested in the lives of fictional characters, it's time to get some sort of social life.

was this rude? [Feb. 28th, 2007|08:09 pm]
A girl in my computer class sent me an email with a link to that "ultimate showdown" video everyone and their mothers have seen.

so I made this image and sent it back. too rude?

maybe I'm neurotic? [Feb. 21st, 2007|07:41 pm]
so I've been invited to a birthday party that's at a bar, and since I'm still only 20, that means if I go I won't be able to go within 6' of the bar itself. I don't know if they enforce that at dead presidents (the bar) or not. I've been to bars where they have, and I've been to bars where they haven't (although in those cases, I was playing with drive all day).

now some of you might know that I get anxious pretty easily. well, bars make me particularly anxious because I always get (possibly imagined) "bad vibes", if you will, from the bartender, seeing as how I'm not really a customer because I'm too young to buy alcohol and too poor to spend money I don't have on food I don't want.

I will likely be very anxious, and it's unlikely that I'll be able to unwind enough to enjoy myself in any capacity. however, this feels like a pretty shitty reason to not go.

so do I do a short drop-in or what?

school school school [Jan. 10th, 2007|07:58 pm]
oh I love my computer class. no homework ever (guaranteed), "4 hours" once a week but it actually only goes for 2, every rule del-tech has is bent in some way or another, easy as hell.

I switched over to the super easy math class for idiots today. I forgot everything I knew!

[Current Music |Neko Case]

merry christmas.

My parents and I gave Ed a manual burr grinder and a french press, so we've been drinking excellent coffee today. I'm even drinking it black! It turns out I am a real man after all. The only reason I didn't like black coffee, it seems, was because our blade grinder and drip machine made such a nightmare out of it.

I didn't get what I wanted most, which was to have my grandfathers drafting table put together, have clip put on it, and have it set up in the living room or sun room (lots of natural light in both rooms). I'll probably get that anyway at some point if I take the initiative to do it myself. I got some windsor and newton colored inks, two cds (neko case and of montreal), and "the bride with white hair" on dvd, which is a movie I'd been dying to see since kungfucinema.com put it in the number one slot on their "best martial arts films of all time" list. Ed and I watched it today, and it wasn't actually all that much of a kung fu movie really. It was more of a fantasy romance thing spiked with scenes of extreme violence. I liked it anyway though, and at least now I don't have to get frustrated because I haven't seen it and it can't be rented anywhere. it's weird! it's got a really strong plot, which is pretty dang rare for a hong kong film (and I say this as a fan of hong kong films).

I gave my mom a brush and ink/water color drawing of an asian style (mostly chinese. yeah, I researched this stuff) dragon. I don't normally draw dragons, because they are second only to anime as things that boring high school girls draw way too much of, but my mom loves dragons and used to collect them, so it seemed appropriate. the coloring isn't great, but it's definitely better than my last water color effort. maybe I will take a picture of it at some point and post it.

Michael's is the most frustrating store in the world to me today. There were three relatively basic things I was looking for, and the only one they had was the god damned sketchbook. I was looking for a specific brush, but a very popular specific brush. A windsor and newton series 7 size 2. Not only did they not have any series 7 brushes, the tips of most of the sable brushes they have are kind of fucked up and missing the sleeves. Anyway, I wrote "fuck this store" on the shelf with the prisma color markers that everyone tests on.

typing this out makes me notice how small this is, but it bugged the shit out of me at the time.

I shaved my beard [Sep. 24th, 2006|08:28 pm]
nothing makes my blood boil like the terms "inking" and "painting" applied to digital art. it really bothers me when someone calls a photoshop image they made a "painting" or mentions inking something without mentioning that they mean "digital inking." real inking and painting takes a lot more skill and looks a lot better (if it's done well). also, traditional inking involves INK(!!!) and traditional painting involves PAINT(!!!). I'm sorry, but if you do art in photoshop or illustrator or something like that, and your art sucks when you use real materials, that means you are a shitty artist.

honestly though, I have no problem with computer art/design programs (other than their stupid, infuriating terminology). I just think some people should learn how to use some real life pens, pencils and brushes before they start calling themselves artists.

by the way, I shaved my beard. I should have taked a "before" picture, but it didn't occur to me. here's an "after" picture: Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

don't say "the fact of the matter" or "the fact remains" et cetera, if you are stating and opinion, you dumbshit internet!!!! all trying to write like you're smart and just proving that you are a moron as a result. Also, it annoys me when you use "literally" for emphasis when describing something figurative. example: it was so funny, I literlly laughed my head off.

note: if you incorrectly use the word "fact" I'm not really mad achoo. well, I am. but only tonight. I don't even usually notice it.
